Resonance evolved in 2002 from the freelance careers of award winning Sound Designer Andy and his Bafta nominee wife Mary.
We specialise in sound design, sound editing, supervision and training.
Working on everything from short films, commercials & television, interactive media through to large scale feature films, with over forty years of experience.
Since the outset of moving from the analogue to the digital age, Andy has compiled a vast library of sound effect collected over 40 years.
From hundreds of productions and personal recordings.
Resonance has a strong commitment to the delivery of high quality original soundtracks for film, television and interactive projects with a finite attention to detail. Finding the perfect combination of audio ingredients brings original and unique soundtracks to high-end productions.
A branch of the company’s activities is public speaking, lectures and tutorials.
As a visiting tutor at The National film and Television school MA Sound course since 1992, and has participated in the past as a BAFTA mentor.
Andy has found the teaching process incredibly rewarding and has a series of lectures on sound design at international educational institutes.
His students have gone on to work on blockbuster films and big budget TV with fast career trajectories.
Mary Kennedy also worked as producer and public speaker for an Oxford company, specialising in the field of autism and as a private advocate for several years.
Please get in touch on the contact page for offerings of speaking and teaching.

Specialisation on complex effects sequences from intricate action sequences to big budget CGI’s scenes.
Projects range from Harry Potter to Game of Thrones season one and the award winning 'The Crown'.
Recording original sound is key.
During Game of Thrones, having absorbed the novels and realising the amount of horse action in the narrative.
Getting recordings of horses - birds and crowd, during the shoot in Northern Ireland was a priority.
The hard work and attention to detail helped lead to an Emmy nomination in 2011.
Field recording for a day at Bletchley Park with the famous Enigma and Colossus early machines used in code breaking in WW2, led to the successful film 'The Imitation Game'. being nominated for best sound in the 2015 Bafta awards.

An argument can be made that the ‘productions’ budgets can’t cater for ‘post’ requirements during shoot.
Being proactive during the shoot can save a production time and money at editorial all the way to the final mix.
This can be down to scheduling and planning and adds to the sound recordist's burden during the shoot.
We have tried with the sound recording students at NFTS to help them understand the importance of capturing quality sound and to be imaginative as to what might be required in post production.
